The cancellation of the airport project after 53 years has left nearly 9,000 acres of prime farmland at risk of permanent loss to commercial, residential, and/or industrial uses, to the significant detriment of our own and future generations. This is the kind of rich soil that feeds us, and there isn’t much left.

On April 17, Transport Canada completed the public consultations on future uses of the Lands and is now reviewing the responses and preparing a What We Heard report. For dates and more information, visit Transport Canada’s Future Uses of the Pickering Lands Public Consultation website.

You can still send an email to your Member of Parliament to reinforce the position that ALL of the Pickering Lands should be added to Rouge National Urban Park. On our home page, click on the Updated: Public Consultations article under Breaking News.
 
It may be our last chance to save this prime farmland. We must ensure that our MPs hear – loud and clear – that the public wants to see this land protected for the public good.

The news media, as well as their audiences, need to hear that protecting this prime farmland — the land that feeds us — is crucial to our future health and well-being.
