49 YEARS ON, DOC GODFREY & PEOPLE OR PLANES ARE STILL RIGHT
As we enter the 50th year of #NoPickeringAirport, never have we owed such a debt of gratitude to People or Planes as we have during this pandemic – the year when the skies went silent, airports sat empty, and some foods suddenly became scarce or unavailable. On March 2, 1972, the men and women of […]
Looking Back on the Back Forty
On New Year’s Eve and #ThrowbackThursday, as we all look forward to an escape from 2020 and lean into the possibility of a please-god-let-it-be-better 2021, our Chair looks back on 40 years on the Federal Lands. INDOOR FARMING AND NORTH PICKERING
Local politicians have for years extolled indoor farms as desirable elements of a future airport on the Federal Lands, no doubt banking on the idea that by incorporating such facilities into the project, they would silence objections to the destruction of prime farmland. The full report was released without fanfare by Transport Canada on March 5, 2020. We broke it down.

BREAKING! NO BUSINESS CASE TO SUPPORT AIRPORT ON THE PICKERING FEDERAL LANDS — KPMG study.
Transport Canada’s KPMG report about the future needs of the southern Ontario airport system was released on March 5, 2020. After a three-year-long study, the KPMG consultants concluded that there’s no need for the immediate development of an airport on the Pickering Federal Lands: “Although all four scenarios identify minor capacity deficits, these can be overcome with modest expansions in aircraft apron and air terminal facilities at the airports in the southern Ontario airport system. Therefore, a new airport is not expected to be required in southern Ontario prior to 2036 to meet the forecast demand.”
Durham Climate Change Emergency Declaration Passes!
Durham Regional Council has voted to support a Climate Change Emergency Declaration. Here’s our delegation to Regional Council and our accompanying visual presentation where we highlight the outrageous hypocrisy of paving over prime farmland for Toronto East Aerotropolis. Read more below.

FACT CHECK!
Dear supporters, please fact check! If a story doesn’t smell right, please take the time to do a basic check before you share. And if it concerns rumours or ‘facts’ about the proposed Pickering airport, send it to us first, as many of you have done recently. Remember, corporations (including governments) have budgets for marketing, […]
