FEDS TO EXTEND FARM LEASES ON LANDS
Today, Transport Canada announced that, on April 1, 2018, farm leases on the remaining Pickering Lands will become 10-year leases instead of the 1-year version that has been in place for over 4 decades. This is a significant development, and we’re excited that the government has begun to move on this file. But we’re also […]
Our “In The Media” Page Goes Live!
Our searchable In the Media pages, containing more than a thousand links, are now up and running. Every week or so we’ll be adding more links to keep you up to date.
You’ll find articles, reports, letters to editors, videos – a goldmine of information – on Aviation/Airports; Climate Change; the Environment; Food, Water, and Agriculture; and related Historical matters, dating back to 2007 when we first launched this service.
For information on the Federal Lands, check out “Focus On The Lands.” For a slightly wider perspective (Southern Ontario), see “The Local Story.” And for a global perspective, see “The Bigger Picture.”
The range of sources is impressive. Obvious and not-so-obvious Canadian media outlets, local and national, are well represented amid an expansive, eclectic assortment of information sources from around the globe. To give you an idea, we link to material on: Skies, The Guardian, edie.net, Country Guide, The Italian Insider, Forbes, DW (Deutsche Welle), Hindustan Times, Mother Jones, Pulitzer Centre on Crisis Reporting, Atlas Obscura, NASA, GreenAir Online, AirportWatch, The New York Times, PlanaSana, World Government Summit, AirInsight, UAE’s The National, Food Tank, European Parliament News, UN News Centre, Reuters’ Global Energy News, Worldwatch Institute, Tourism Watch, The Australian, Aljazeera America, World Bank: Open India, The Japan Times, Dhaka Tribune, CarbonBrief, Khaleej Times (Dubai), cattlenetwork.com, Vox, Radio Free Asia, U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and many other sites. If your interest is in what the media have reported on our story, or on the state of aviation biofuels, or how local airports are faring, or what governments and food producers are saying, or how climate change and food security are being addressed (or not), you can find out here.

Herongate Fundraiser – March 9, 2017
Our basket almost runneth over! With our Herongate Barn Dinner Theatre event having raised close to $8,000 from tickets sales and a fabulous Silent Auction, we are delighted to report that we’ve now raised over $72,000 for our Ag Study. That means we are within 15% of our goal of it.
UPDATE Newsletter for March: 45th Anniversary of Expropriation Edition
It was 45 years ago today that thousands of people learned their homes, farms, communities — their very lives — had been taken over, without warning, by the government. It was a massive expropriation for an airport that was never built.
We salute the heroes of People or Planes, who fought back, and we look at where we stand now in Pickering and on the international stage! Read more in UPDATE Newsletter #39 – March 2, 2017: 45th Anniversary of Expropriation Edition.

Our sincere thanks to individuals like you who have brought us so close to our goal in such a short time. And our special thanks to Margaret Atwood for her generous $1,000 matching gift – which was matched within hours.
Dinner Theatre Fundraiser at Herongate – March 9, 2017
