Our basket almost runneth over! With our Herongate Barn Dinner Theatre event having raised close to $8,000 from tickets sales and a fabulous Silent Auction, we are delighted to report that we’ve now raised over $72,000 for our Ag Study. That means we are within 15% of our goal of it.

It was 45 years ago today that thousands of people learned their homes, farms, communities — their very lives — had been taken over, without warning, by the government. It was a massive expropriation for an airport that was never built.
We salute the heroes of People or Planes, who fought back, and we look at where we stand now in Pickering and on the international stage! Read more in UPDATE Newsletter #39 – March 2, 2017: 45th Anniversary of Expropriation Edition.

We’re thrilled to announce that, thanks to the overwhelming support of our partners, members, and community, we’ve reached the halfway mark of our fundraising campaign in just over two weeks! These donations send a clear message to our governments that the community wants this study of an alternative vision for the Federal Lands.
Land Over Landings has launched an Agricultural/Rural-Growth Economics Study of the Remaining Pickering Federal Lands, and we need your help. We are a volunteer, not-for-profit group. We operate on a shoestring, fuelled by tenacity, hard work, and vision. We’ve never had a fundraising campaign before. We’re starting one now.

Yesterday, Nov. 28, Transport Canada quietly released Dr Gary Polonsky’s report , “Jets & Jobs”, on possible future uses of the remaining Federal Lands. In a document rife with predictions, assumptions, and plans, “climate change” isn’t mentioned once, although it formed a major part of our submission. Now, where were we before all that municipal business came up…? Oh yes, saving the best farmland in Canada from an unnecessary airport! We’re so please to see that the new mission of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture echoes our own longstanding message: “Farmland Forever! Airport Never!”. We look forward to continuing to work together with farmers to save Ontario’s best farmland.
