Dear supporters, please fact check! If a story doesn’t smell right, please take the time to do a basic check before you share.
And if it concerns rumours or ‘facts’ about the proposed Pickering airport, send it to us first, as many of you have done recently. Remember, corporations (including governments) have budgets for marketing, media, and spin doctors. And politicians often have hidden debts to be paid, secret promises to be kept, unseen strings that are attached to, say, developers, who have contributed to their campaigns. And media, even the good ones, are often rushed in this age of instant news and social media. Sometimes, they make mistakes or don’t dig deep enough. The bad actors can take advantage of this reality.
So our message to you is that we have no restrictive strings, no hidden agendas, no backroom promises, and no financial gain in our advocacy. We are unpaid volunteers and accept no corporate funding. We won’t lie, fudge, deflect, or obfuscate. In short, while we may make mistakes, we will always endeavour to correct them. We will always tell you the truth.
As for the Narcity piece pictured here, what you need to know is:
a) There was NO ANNOUNCEMENT on Friday!
b) There is no evidence that “the federal government is sitting on an updated report”. You can track the progress of the Aviation Sector Analysis here: https://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/ontario/pickering-2030.html#aviation_sector
c) There is no evidence that the report is in the hands of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (provincial). More than likely, the data has been shared with Transport Canada’s Ontario Region office (federal).
