Airport integration needed to meet demand
Publication Date: October 8, 2015
Tags: Aviation/Airports
An airport’s true capacity is its maximum aircraft movement capacity; each takeoff or landing counts as one aircraft movement. While Pearson’s air passenger traffic growth has been strong over the past few years, growing nearly 40% since 2000, aircraft movements in that period have grown by 1%, explains the article. In short, Pearson needs tens of acres to expand air passenger terminal facilities within its current site over the next few decades, not thousands of acres for additional runways (or new airports). Also, Pearson's estimated 65-70 million passenger capacity is before its 6th runway is even built in the mid-2030s, so passenger limits will be even higher.Globe and Mail

No jet fuel alternatives have been produced to date on a significant scale. Only last year, a Boeing senior executive said that reaching 1% would be considered a milestone.Peterborough Examiner
