Our new report, Incompatible Neighbours, explains how the Wildlife Hazard Zone surrounding a commercial airport on the Pickering Lands would encompass more than half of Rouge National Urban Park. The Zone’s severe restrictions, developed to ensure the safety of aircraft, would limit or prevent many important Park activities and would interfere with many of its most fundamental environmental protections. The incompatibility of a national park and an adjacent airport is made crystal clear, and a solution to the problem is suggested, one that would guarantee the long-term integrity of the Park.
