In North Pickering, the federal government owns thousands of acres of prime farmland, expropriated in 1972 for an airport that was never built. Fifty years on, that important tract of farmland is still at risk of development even though our planet is rapidly heating and all farmland requires protection, to help feed us. The latest […]

Inaccurate Durham Region post regarding “New Pickering Airport”
On March 9, 2020, Durham Region published this web post. The post, about a Pickering airport, is seriously misleading, announcing conclusions that KPMG did not reach and featuring claims that the report did not contain. More than a full pandemic year after the appearance of this post, the inaccuracies are still there and have become increasingly […]

As we enter the 50th year of #NoPickeringAirport, never have we owed such a debt of gratitude to People or Planes as we have during this pandemic – the year when the skies went silent, airports sat empty, and some foods suddenly became scarce or unavailable. INDOOR FARMING AND NORTH PICKERING
Local politicians have for years extolled indoor farms as desirable elements of a future airport on the Federal Lands, no doubt banking on the idea that by incorporating such facilities into the project, they would silence objections to the destruction of prime farmland. The paper reveals how misguided such thinking is. “Indoor Farming and North […]
KPMG FINDS NO AIRPORT NEEDED
Back in 2016, Transport Canada tasked KPMG with analysing the airport system of southern Ontario to the year 2036. An up-to-date study was said to be needed to decide when airport capacity constraints would necessitate a Pickering airport. KPMG’s findings were submitted in sections, over 3 years. The full report was released without fanfare by Transport Canada on March 5, 2020. We broke it down.
